Lately, more and more scientists are dealing with blue light and how it affects us. According to recent research, it is not only ultraviolet (UV) radiation of sunlight that is a threat to our eyesight, but also blue light, which is emitted by computer screens, laptops, tablets, smartphones, flat screen TVs and energy saving lamps (LED).
WHAT IS UV AND BLUE RADIATION
UV and Blue radiation are a part of white or sunlight. Specifically, sunlight consists of many shades of red, orange, yellow, green and blue. Combined all these rays create the so-called white light and all this energy is called electromagnetic radiation.
At one end of the spectrum of visible light are the rays of blue light with the shortest wavelengths and the highest energy – so it is more powerful than the rest of the visible spectrum of light.
There is the natural blue light, which is emitted by the sun (due to this is the blue color of the sky), which regulates the sleep cycles (Circadian cycle), increases alertness and generally causes positive emotions and the artificial blue light that mentioned above, which is emitted by electronic devices.
SYMPTOMS OF CHRONIC EXPOSURE UV AND BLUE RADIATION
- Photo-keratitis and photo-keratoconjunctivitis
- Cataract occurrence
- Macular ageing
- Blurred vision
- Eye irritation
- Dry eye
- Ocular fatigue
- Headache
- Insomnia
